Bromptons shipped to Indonesia?

Posted by on Jul 10, 2020 in Folding Bike Blog | Comments Off on Bromptons shipped to Indonesia?

This is a huge no-no. Although Ashburn Bicycle Repair has always limited its sales to domestic-US locations, Brompton straw purchases are reportedly on the rise. What’s that? A purchase of a Brompton by a buyer in the United States who intends to ship that bike elsewhere, in this case Indonesia. Why the fuss? Indonesia requires an Indonesia National Standard Certificate (SNI) for all bikes ordered from Brompton by official dealers in Indonesia. A bike purchased in the United States, then transported by the buyer to Indonesia, will not have the required SNI Certificate. That certificate...

One of the world’s greatest headset manufacturer’s makes a headset for your Brompton, the Chris King GripNut.  Available in three sizes:  1″, 1-1/8″, and 1-1/4″.  Bromptons require the 1-1/8″.  Which color?  Lots to choose from with Chris King, but silver is always a classic look. Bromptons can are fitted with steel and aluminium headsets.  The aluminum headsets are reserved for Brompton’s Superlight models, which come equipped with the titanium fork and rear triangle.  Both Brompton stock headsets are based on caged-ball bearings.  Nothing at all...

brompton under 20 pounds

Is it possible to have a sub-20-pound Brompton? Absolutely!   Can you do it for free? No, but pretty close (as little as about $60).   Should you leave the safety reflectors on your bike because, well, they’re safe? Yes. Am I going to remove them, anyway? For demonstration purposes, yes.   Here are FOUR (relatively) easy Brompton modifications to bring an S1E-X to under 20 pounds.   Before we get started, why bother with lightening-up a Brompton? Are a couple pounds THAT big a deal? As always, it depends. One of my favorite bikes is Surly’s all-steel Krampus. It’s over 30...

Once you’ve fallen in love with a Brompton, it’s hard not to customize it to your own liking.  Oftentimes, that means trying to make your B just a little bit lighter.  Lots and lots of options.  Both from Brompton-corporate as well as a number of independent aftermarket companies. STARTING WEIGHT OF (MOST) BROMPTONS: Most stock Bromptons come out of the box at about 25 pounds.  With millions (literally) of different Brompton configurations, weights vary between about 20 to 28 pounds. On the lighter side, an S1E-titanium, with Schwalbe’s lightweight Kojak tires, and no...

best brompton hard case for flying

Let’s get right down to business.  The best Brompton hard case for flying?  Hands down, it’s SKB’s injection molded water tight case . Its interior measurement dimensions are 22.5″ x 22.5″ x 12.5″.  I bought mine for $219 through Amazon.  The length and width dimensions make for a snug fit for an M-type or S-type Brompton, but it works.  One minor disassembly requirement, the saddle needs to be removed.  Or, if your Brompton is equipped with a telescopic seat-tube, just pop-out the seat by it’s extension, pack alongside your well-protected bike, and...

Montague folding bike review

As an official Montague bicycle dealer, full disclosure, we do have a dog in this fight. Montague bikes are full-sized folding bikes.  But most importantly, this full-sized folder is not a gimmick.  Similarly, it’s not a rickety ‘regular’ bike that also happens to fold.  Consequently, these bikes are super solid.  As a result, you quickly forget you’re on a bike that, indeed, folds.  A spring-loaded, double-secure quick-release latch locks the frame into position.   Montague’s Olympic and Military Histories:   In 1996, Montague was named the Official...
